Filming in Oxfordshire: permits and fees
Oxfordshire County Council manages county highway filming; Oxford's colleges each have independent protocols, and Blenheim Palace handles commercial filming separately.
Who issues permits
Oxfordshire County Council manages filming on county highways and county land. For Oxford city filming, approach Oxford City Council. For University of Oxford locations — Christ Church, Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, Oxford Castle — each requires a separate enquiry to the relevant institution. Blenheim Palace and Bampton have their own independent arrangements.
Process
Contact the county council for highway filming. For Oxford city locations, contact Oxford City Council. For university colleges, approach each college individually — there is no central University of Oxford filming enquiry route. Allow term-time restrictions when planning: most colleges only accommodate commercial filming during vacations. Allow four weeks minimum for all applications.
Fees
County highway fees on application. College and heritage location fees are bespoke. Blenheim Palace commercial filming fees are agreed directly with their events team.
Oxford College term-time restrictions
University of Oxford colleges run filming only outside term time as a general rule, with some flexibility for interiors and specific spaces. Easter and Christmas vacations are the most productive windows. Summer (July–September) is also feasible for many colleges.
