About this location
Mayfield is a former railway parcel depot in Manchester, immediately east of Piccadilly station, built in the 1870s and used for goods and parcel handling until closure in the 1980s. The principal space is a massive single-volume warehouse — approximately 13,000 square metres of open-plan floor under a ridge-and-furrow iron and glass roof, with iron columns, loading bays, and exposed brickwork throughout. The building spent decades derelict before being acquired and converted to an events venue opening around 2019, while retaining most of its original industrial character.
Manchester’s live events industry was quick to recognise Mayfield as a high-quality industrial venue for music festivals, markets, and corporate events; this commercial activity funds the ongoing restoration. For productions, the appeal is the industrial scale — 13,000sqm of column-free (or sparse-column) warehouse space in the middle of Manchester, with power and loading infrastructure already installed. The adjacency to Piccadilly station and its infrastructure also means railway sounds and infrastructure may be incorporated into filming.
The Mayfield Partnership (development company) manages commercial hire. The venue has hosted productions alongside events. Manchester Piccadilly station entrance is a three-minute walk through the connecting street. The River Medlock runs along the south side of the site, providing a small river exterior option.
